Judique's Celtic Music Golf Classic a Success

It was a bright and perfect morning for an early round of golf. The golfers enjoyed a lobster and crab dinner and a ceilidh the night before with entertainment by Howie MacDonald, Dave MacIsaac, Andrea Beaton, Glenn Graham, Kim Gillis, and Kolten MacDonell.

Celtic Music Golf Classic supports the Celtic Music Interpretive Centre in Judique, and this year saw the eighth of these annual events. Guests from as far away as Florida and came to play golf and lend support to the fund-raising efforts.

Honourary Chair and CBC host Linden MacIntyre performed as Master of Ceremonies was, and tournament sponsor Tom Rankin presented awards to First Place Winners from the Top Flite team, Dennis Surette, Rick Gaudet, Andrew Sherman, and Pat Logan., with a score of 59, won by retrogression after bogeying the last hole.

Second place was Warren Associates team of Garth Warren, Dean Resendes, John Martin, and Fraser Keyes who also had a score of 59, but birdied the last hole.

Third place was the Arc team #1 of Simon Drouin, Mark Parl, Scott Townsend and Jim Sweeney with a score of 60, and par on the last two holes.

The Closest-to-the-Hole prize of a $500 Travel voucher and a chance at a million-dollar hole in one went to Peter Clow.

The Closest-to-the-Hole Top Flite Callaway package went to Joel Shannon, the Straightest Drive Top Flite Callaway package went to Lars MacDonald, the Closest-to-the-Lassie Top Flite Callaway package went to Mick Fitt, and the Drive- ‘er-to-the-Fiddle prize went to Mark Pearl.

The tournament ended with four winners taking a shot at the million-dollar hole-in-one sponsored by Lars MacDonald. On the eighteenth green Peter Clow, Jim MacDonald, Wells Woodill, Jim Fulmore, and Ian Neville braced themselves for the high-stakes shot while the audience watched from the hole. But despite the high hopes and good wishes, and a couple of good shots, there was no new millionaire walking down the green.

The hole-in-one prizes, a 2006 Ford Fusion sponsored by Canso Ford, and the two $25,000 ones, did not go, and many golfers began making plans for returning next year to try their luck again.
